Adjoining Flora’s Hof just below the Dom Tower is the museum’s workshop, housed in former auction rooms. Visitors will be able to see for themselves the restoration of many  instruments. This is the very first time that the public can see restoration work in progress since Museum Speelklok was established more than fifty years ago.

Meet the Restorer

Small groups of visitors can watch the restorers at work and see at first hand some unique and world-famous restoration projects. A team of restorers (aged between 18 and 64 years) from a whole range of disciplines has been working on maintaining the collection for more than 35 years, enabling this unique craft to be preserved and passed on to their fellow restorers around the world. Experience the magic this restoration work creates and listen to the fascinating stories the restorers have to tell.

Restorer for one day
Visitors themselves can experience what it is like to be a restorer of instruments that may be hundreds of years old. In a special set-up that is suitable for everyone from 9 to 109 years old, they can build a clock or learn all about the most extraordinary materials and techniques used in restoration work.

Go to venue hire to find out about the possibilities to visit the Restoration Workshop outside regular opening hours.
