Meet & greet tour Martin Molin en Marble Machine

Op 28 en 30 mei biedt Museum Speelklok je de kans om het brein achter de ingenieuze Marble Machine te ontmoeten: Martin Molin van de Zweedse band Wintergatan!

On 28 and 30 May, Museum Speelklok is offering a unique chance to meet the brains behind the ingenious Marble Machine: Martin Molin of the Swedish band Wintergatan! Read English version below.

Tijdens een Meet & greet tour geeft Martin samen met een gids van het museum een rondleiding langs de collectie automatisch spelende muziekinstrumenten. Martin vertelt tijdens de tour welke elementen uit onze museumcollectie hem een paar jaar geleden zo hebben geïnspireerd tot het bouwen van de Marble Machine. De tour eindigt dan ook bij dit geweldige apparaat en deze zal door Martin zelf gedemonstreerd worden. De Meet & greet rondleidingen worden gegeven op 28 en 30 mei om 11.00 uur, 13.00 uur en 15.00 uur.

Martin Molin van Wintergatan beschrijft in zijn veelbekeken video’s dat de Marble Machine veel mechanische problemen heeft gehad. Toen het aantal problemen bleef groeien heeft Martin besloten om de machine met ‘pensioen’ te laten gaan en een nieuwe machine te bouwen: Marble Machine X. Hiermee kan Wintergatan in de toekomst ook optreden.

Een aantal onderdelen van de machine zijn voor het plaatsen in Museum Speelklok gerestaureerd, waardoor het mogelijk is om de basisonderdelen te demonstreren. Maar het is niet mogelijk om hele nummers te spelen. Eén instrument, de vibrafoon zal gedemonstreerd worden. De knikkers zullen ook daadwerkelijk de vibrafoon bespelen.

Meet & Greet tour with Martin Molin and his Marble Machine

On 28 and 30 May, Museum Speelklok is offering a unique chance to meet the brains behind the ingenious Marble Machine: Martin Molin of the Swedish band Wintergatan!

During a special meet & greet tour through the museum, Martin will take you to the instruments in our collection that inspired him to build the Marble Machine. Assisted by our own tour guides, he will show you the technical aspects and elements that made a big impression on him a few years ago. Of course, the tour will end at the Marble Machine itself, which partly will function and be demonstrated by Martin itself. Only one of the instrument, the vibraphone will be demonstrated where the other instruments, the drums and the bass will be silent.

These unique guided tours take place on 28 and 30 May, at 11.00, 13.00 and 15.00. All meet & greet tours are fully booked!

Some of the functions on the Marble Machine that will be displayed at Museum Speelklok have been restored so we can demonstrate the basic functions of the machine, but it’s no longer able to play full songs. Martin have described in several videos how The Marble Machine have encountered many mechanical problems. When the number of problems grew Martin decided to ‘retire’  this version and build a new one, Marble Machine X. This machine will overcome these mechanical problems and will be used live on stage during performances of Wintergatan.
