Open Heritage Day 2025
Take a behind-the-scenes look at Museum Speelklok during Utrecht Heritage Day!

The central theme for Utrecht Heritage Day in 2025 is Utrecht icons. Of course the Buurkerk, the oldest parish church of Utrecht and home to Museum Speelklok is part of this day’s special prorgramme. On Saturday September 13, Museum Speelklok is offering guided tours of the Buurkerk and the Restoration studio. The guided tours are free of charge. If you would like to visit the rest of the museum, you will need an admission ticket.
Buurkerk
A guide from Museum Speelklok will share more about the church’s history and its hidden frescoes. The Buurkerk has played a significant role in the city for over a thousand years. Until 1125, it was the only church intended for the townspeople. The church has survived fires, storms, floods, withstood shelling, and left the Reformation behind. The Buurkerk was an important connection between the two sides of the city; urban traffic moved right through the church. After serving various purposes over the years, the music of Museum Speelklok’s music machines has filled the church’s halls since 1984.
The guided tours will start at 14.00, 15.00 and 16.00 hrs in the museum café.
Restoration studio
Take a behind-the-scenes look at the unique Restoration studio, adjacent to Flora’s Hof. Here, the museum’s collection is maintained and restored. Thanks to our restorers, the instruments play exactly as they did, sometimes hundreds of years ago! Especially for Utrecht Heritage Day, the Restoration studio will open its doors; normally, this area is off-limits to visitors.
At 14.00, 15.00 and 16.00 hrs one of our tour guides will tell about the history of this building and the work carried out here. You can go directly to Flora’s Hof to join the tour; it is a 1 minute walk from the museum. Walk through the Servetstraat towards the Dom Tower. You will find the entrance to Flora’s Hof on your right hand.
