Music Machines & Me officially opened
On Tuesday 14 April, we celebrated the opening of Music Machines & Me. Sharon Dijksma, Mayor of Utrecht, officially opened the interactive technology and music lab.
After years of development and design and months of construction, the entire first floor of the museum has been transformed into an interactive and inspiring space for creative minds and curious doers. In Music Machines & Me, everyone becomes a creator. Visitors are challenged to experiment and make for themselves, deciding how their own music machine will sound. To do so, they can draw inspiration from all the historical music machines at Museum Speelklok.
Opening: a musical celebration
The opening was a musical celebration featuring musical theatre by BOT. Director Marian van Dijk spoke with Sharon Dijksma, Mayor of Utrecht. She officially opened Music Machines & Me. Ebelin Boswinkel, Head of Presentation and Education, explained how the exhibition came about and the ideas behind all the interactive displays and working models that audiences can try out for themselves. The official part concluded with the new Speelklok anthem, created by music producer Tantu Beats, Berlin based but originally from the museum’s hometown, Utrecht.
Opening day kicks off with Girls’ Day
What a morning to kick off the opening of Music Machines & Me! Together with Koninklijke Kuijpers, the museum presented a technology programme in and around Music Machines & Me during Girls’ Day. Girls’ Day is a national technology day designed to inspire girls aged 10–15 to pursue technical careers. A hundred pupils got to work on all sorts of technical experiments and were the first to try out the museum’s new technology and music lab.
